Onset is the best known of all, loved for its harbors in and around Onset Bay, for its beautiful beaches and waterfront estates, and for the summer activities and fun, festive atmosphere of its village center.  East Wareham has several major retail stores, while West Wareham - a more rural area - is the site of the Wareham Crossing shopping center, and the new Rosebrook Park medical office building. Wareham Village is home to Tobey Hospital and a large number of medical offices.

Among the numerous unofficial neighborhoods are:
Agawam Beach, Agawam Lake, Blackmore Pond, Burgess Point, Cromeset, Five Corners, Great Neck, Hamilton Beach, Indian Heights, Indian Mound Beach, Jefferson Shores, Little Harbor, Parkwood Beach, Pinehurst Beach, Point Independence, Shangrila, Shell Point, Sias Point, South Wareham, Swifts Beach, Wareham Center, Weweantic, Whittemore Point, White Island Shores (mostly in the town of Plymouth, partly in Wareham), Tempest Knob, Stony Point, Codmans Point, and Bass Cove. Wareham is bordered on the west by Marion and Rochester, on the north by Carver and Plymouth, and on the east by Bourne.
